Coleman Reunion Dinner—Trudy Glassman

Saturday, May 26, 2001

Welcome, welcome to all you Colemans, those who carry the Coleman genes and those who had the good sense to marry into the family.

The young people may wonder why I was chosen to welcome you.  It’s not because I’m the wisest – which I’m not.  Nor because I’m the best speechmaker – which I’m not.  It’s only because I’m the oldest – which I am !

I wasn’t always the oldest.  My sister Berenice, if she had lived, would have had the pleasure of welcoming you today.  Would that all of the seventeen original first cousins could have lived to be with us.  So – cousins Berenice, Marjorie, Harriet, and Harry – we miss you.  We also regret that Charles, Carole, and Jeffrey could not be here.

We are here to honor grandma Hannah Coleman and grandpa Harris Coleman, and their eight children, our forebears.  So let’s drink, let’s eat, and let’s be merry and enjoy ourselves as they would have wished us to do.

One more word.  Our thanks to Sallie, Judy, Hannah, Fran, and Sheva for working hard and long to make this reunion happen.

I love you all !
